Panchakarma is cleansing of the body according to Ayurved. Pancha in Sanskrit stands for Five and Karma are procedures, therefore Panchakarma means set of fivefold specialized techniques of therapy for eliminating the toxic elements from the body. These five procedures are Vaman (i.e. therapeutic vomiting), Virechan (i.e. therapeutic purgation), Basti (enema), Nasya (nasal administration) and RaktaMokshan(therapeutic bloodsucking by leeches). Snehan and Swedan are done before Panchakarma.
Along with these Abhyang, Shirodhara, Swedan, HridBasti, Basti are useful in heart diseases.

Nasya karma aims at detoxification of vitiated doshas from the head and neck region primarily and is regarded as the best and most specific treatment for diseases in that region.
